It sounds crazy but true.

Rather than focus on what hasn’t worked or giving yourself a hard time because the project/job has gone off the rails, ask yourself the following question, “What is this showing me? What can I put in place to prevent the same situation from happening again?”

Would adding something to your terms and conditions help? What if you extend your delivery deadlines? If you had communicated with your client up front, would that have helped? What if you went with your gut and said no when you suspected the person would be a pain and wasn’t your ideal client?

Blaming yourself or the client is a waste of your precious time.

Asking yourself, ‘What is this showing me?’ allows you to put policies in place that will back you and ensure it doesn’t happen again.
